graduated in 2013. Started as Kiita’s first Inupiaq Language Teacher in 2022.

For 7 years I was a stay-at-home-mom and ran a small business. BA Vinyl, ran by myself and

my husband, created many decals (boats/vehicles) you may see around Barrow. August of

2022 my high school teacher, Alice Sage, called me and asked if I would like a job at Kiita.

Without hesitation I took the job. Since I was a graduate of the school it didn't take me long to

adjust.

In my free time I enjoy spending time with my family outdoors. Whether it'd be hunting or

spending quality time with my family, you may see us out. I LOVE sewing; skin and fabric. I am

an amiqti, one who sews ugruk skins together to cover the frame of an umiapiaq.

My name is Alice Sage. I am happily married to Joesph Sage and together we have seven children and two granddaughters. I've held many roles that have shaped who I am today — from being the wife of a whaling captain to serving as a teacher for nearly two decades.

For 18 years, I lived and worked in Barrow, where I have the honor of working at Kiita Learning Community. My time here has deepened my passion for education and strengthened my commitment to supporting students and families in our community. Teaching has always been more than a profession to me — it is a calling, and I find great joy in both learning and sharing knowledge with others.

Beyond the classroom, I enjoy spending time outside. Hunting and camping are a big part of my family. I also enjoy sewing for my family. I love to earn new things about my culture and my husband culture. I believe in living a life rooted in purpose, family, and community. Whether in the classroom, on the land or ocean, or around a campfire, I strive to lead with heart and a willingness to learn.
